The Cunning Mouse Deer

It was an early morning when a mouse deer was walked along the river bank. The mouse deer looked very tired and weak. He just walked and walked and sometimes he stops for a moment for drinking in the river. The day was getting hotter and hotter but the mouse deer keep walking and sometimes he did a little running. He didn’t realize that he was out from the woods. And now, he was in the field.

“Oh!. How lucky I am! Now I am in the field. I can find something to eat here...” said the mouse deer happily.

He ran cheerfully in the path on the field. But suddenly he fell in old well on the field. The mouse deer was very angry and didn’t stop regretting. Actually, the well was not so deep, but it was very hard for the mouse deer to jump to the well mouth because it was too high and slippery. It was too hard for him to get out from the well.

“God! What should I do now? Should I stay in this well a whole day?? I don’t want it!” cried the mouse deer. Desperately, he finally gave up and just sat on the big stone in the well.

Suddenly, he heard someone voices. And he stood up to call it.

“Hey you! Come here! Quickly!” shouted the mouse deer.

“What are you doing in there, mouse deer?” ask the elephant “are you looking for something?”

“No I’m not. But don’t you see the sky?” said the mouse deer.

The elephant looked at the sky and he saw lightning when the wind was blowing so fast at the same time. The elephant started to panic and scared.

“What’s happening??” ask the elephant.

“Sorry buddy, but I must say it. You are so stupid. It means that in a few minutes again, there will be an earthquake!” said the mouse deer.

“What? Then, what should I do now?” ask the elephant.

“What are you waiting for? Just jump in here to save yourself!” said the mouse deer again.

Without hesitation, the elephant jumped in the well. Unfortunately, the elephant was trapped and now, there were too many animals in the old well.

“Oh friend, How big you are!” said the mouse deer.

“Sorry buddy…” the elephant said, “but I want to save myself from the earthquake too…”

“Yeah, I know. But I can’t even breathe…” the mouse deer said.

And then, the sky was turned darker and it starts to rain heavily.

“Ouch buddy. That’s my feet. Why you stepped on it?? I already helped you but why did you did this to me??” shouted the mouse deer.

“Sorry mouse deer. But I don’t mean that.” Said elephant, “tell me what I should do for you.”

The mouse deer was very happy because the elephant came to his second trap.

“You are so big, friend. What about if I stand on your back. So it’ll give you more spaces.” Said the mouse deer.

“That’s not a bad idea.” The elephant agreed, “Please, stand on my back.”

Poor elephant. He did know that it was the part of the mouse deer traps. The elephant napped on the ground so the mouse deer can stand on his back. The elephant stood up slowly so the mouse deer didn’t fell off.

But, when it was high enough, the mouse deer jumped off from the well.

“Thanks buddy. You are the foolish animal I ever met in my life.” Said the mouse deer happily and ran away.

He left the poor elephant alone in the well and he never came back again.
